PLOTZ, Jochen. FELIPILLO, THE INTERPRETER AMONG THE INCAS AND THE CONQUISTADORS. Forma funcion, Santaf, de Bogot, D.C. [online]. 2016, vol.29, n.1, pp.81-102. ISSN 0120-338X. https://doi.org/10.15446/fyf.v29n1.58509.
This article attempts to contribute to the research about the role attributed to the linguistic and, by extension, transcultural mediator, who is regarded as a traitor that does not say everything he knows as he pursues personal and others' interests. Some guidelines are discovered that characterize the conflicting communicative situations throughout history. Likewise, a translational research line is proposed that focuses on the linguistic mediation itself and its circumstances as a contribution to the history of translation. The research line illustrated in this paper is the case of the confrontation between the Incas and the European conquistadors in Peru, in which some indigenous interpreters acted, upon whom a complete spectrum of projections and attributions have been and are still being produced.
Palabras clave : Translation history; representations in historiography and literature of the interpreter between parties engaged in open conflict; translation and power; linguistic mediation in the conquest of Peru.
