MARGOT, Jean-Paul. Imitation Arts and Imitation of Art in Plato. Prax. filos. [online]. 2023, n.56, pp.79-100. Epub 20-Abr-2023. ISSN 0120-4688. https://doi.org/10.25100/pfilosofica.v0i56.12852.
An art whose essence is mimêsis, painting does not imitate, in a more or less “realistic” manner: the painter imitates reality, not as it is, but as it appears, he paints a phantasma, a simulation. Mimêsis considers the central question in Plato´s philosophy of the degrees of being: an imitation of appearance, painting moves away from reality and truth. Plato uses the concept of imitation to structure the system of essence and its reproductions.
