Objectives: To identify the knowledge, attitudes and practices concerning Pap smears in women aged 18 to 49 years attending public health institutions Cartagena class. Methods: A descriptive study. The population consisted of 16,389 women who attended the test performed Pap smears in public institutions in two localities of the city during 2007. The sample was 346 women (prevalence of 66%, confidence level of 95%, error of 5%, including 10% for replacement). Sampling was stratified with proportional allocation, the selection of women was conducted at random. A questionnaire was structured, self-developed, anonymous, informed consent, established in 4 blocks: (Personal data, knowledge about testing, testing Attitudes, and Practices on the test) to women who authorized his participation in the study. Descriptive statistics were used for data analysis. Results: A total of380 women consistently required to fill out the survey. The average age was 30.8 years (SD = 8.3). It was found that 42% of women have a low level of knowledge, 55% had an unfavorable attitude and 56% a bad practice of cytology. Conclusions: A Significant Percentage of Women Have low and negative attitude Knowledge Against the test of Pap smears. Similarly, most Have a bad practice, ie it is not performed in Accordance with the Provisions of the rule of the Ministry of Health.
