Resumen

PARRA ESQUIVEL, Eliana Isabel  y  PENAS FELIZZOLA, Olga Luz. Child with disability: orienting elements for the social inclusion. Salud, Barranquilla [online]. 2015, vol.31, n.2, pp.329-346. ISSN 0120-5552.

The purpose of this article is to provide conceptual and practical guidance to caregivers, professionals and the general community, about most successful forms of interaction with the disabled child (zero to fourteen years). There are some practical tools available (procedures, tools, strategies, adaptations), whose use helps to understand the situation of children with disabilities and improve their participation in everyday occupational performance contexts: home, school, play activities and free time. Ultimately, it is expected to promote more effective participation of the child in their environments and roles, to recognize these demands and to execute a more careful and efficient management from the Occupational Therapy perspective. Methodology: Methodologically, the work was developed from the screening of documentary sources related to issues such as disability, occupational performance and inclusive strategies in children facing disabling processes. Conclusions: Among the most important contributions of the work are: to demonstrate the importance of increasing public awareness about disability (specifically in children), in favor of promoting inclusive dynamic. The most advanced concepts related to prioritizing the child's participation in everyday contexts and roles like home, school and enjoying fun activities and free time, which leads to considering particular cases when implementing actions with this population. To recognize the complexity of disability, a multidimensional look in understanding, caring and assessment of the needs of children with disabilities must be assumed.
