Resumen

STREPPONE, Maria Victoria. Victoria Ocampo’s Construction of Feminine Models between 1920 and 1940: Rethinking Margherita Sarfatti and Virginia Woolf. hist.crit. [online]. 2020, n.77, pp.111-132. ISSN 0121-1617.  https://doi.org/10.7440/histcrit77.2020.05.

Objective/Context:

This article analyzes gender as a conceptual category that served as the basis for the work of the Argentinian magazine Sur, directed by Victoria Ocampo. The objective is to rebuild the ideals of its protagonist from specific figures who were vital in the construction of modern, feminine models.

Methodology:

The research analyzes archived documents and an extensive bibliography that allows understanding the ideals that guided the specific processes that would serve as the basis for Victoria Ocampo’s literary strategies.

Originality:

This work shows that gender can be expressed in multiple registers, as a function of feminine presences that acquire the condition of models.

Conclusions:

The article proposes an extraliterary interpretation of selected feminine presences around whom the issue of gender is problematized, which is conceived here as a critical sensibility that induces devising certain strategies whereby functional models are selected and proposed for the construction of a local feminine identity.
