Resumen
FLORES, Pamela. News coverage and visibility of femicide in El Heraldo (Barranquilla, Colombia): A case study. Investig. desarro. [online]. 2017, vol.25, n.1, pp.23-48. ISSN 0121-3261. https://doi.org/10.14482/indes.25.1.10227.
Abstract The purpose of this research was to characterize, based on a case study, the narratives produced on femicides by the Colombian journal El Heraldo, based on theproposals contained in the guidelines for the non-sexist coverage of gender violence, and the principles of Communication for Solidarity. The objective is to determine the presence of these guides and principles in the coverage of these situations. The analysis focused on 10 news, concerning two of the twelve femicides covered by the journal during 2015. The results show that El Heraldo makes visible gender violence as well as the limited impact these crimes have in the judicial system. However, it was found lack of contextualization and absence of strategies to produce social sanction and solidarity. The challenge is to generate a journalistic approach that promotes an active citizenship, so that femicide is assumed as a social and public problem.
