Introduction: Due to the set of changes undergone in adolescence, which renders it a field of discoveries and experimentation, this period is often linked to a greater vulnerability related to the phenomenon of discovery of sexuality, unwanted pregnancy, AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases, the exposure to drugs, violence, marginality, among other negative events. In order to face this new demand, the health area needs to develop its own referential to approach the issues of sexuality in adolescence. Aim: This article reports the experience of an extension project in sexual education for adolescents in Cuiabá-MT. Final considerations: It underlines the importance of articulating extension, teaching and research, in which the University and the community share efforts to reduce risks and further healthy adolescence. The experience opens up new prospects for scientific production in a new research field that still needs to be better understood.
