Objective: To describe Burnout syndrome among nurses in two high complex care hospitals in southern Chile, considering the majority of services. Methodology: Descriptive, cross-sectional, and comparative study. Maslach Burnout Inventory General Survey scale and socio-demographic questions were applied to a random proportional sample, stratified by service, profession and hospital, composed of 336 officers: nurses (101 people) and technicians/assistants paramedics (235 people), which met the inclusion requirements. The study was conducted in two high complex care hospitals in southern Chile. The analysis of the results was conducted in SPSS 15.0. The study was approved by the Ethics Committee of Health Services; each participant freely signed an informed consent. Results: The sample had low and moderate scores in the Emotional exhaustion and Cynicism subscales, and high scores in the Professional efficacy subscale. Adult Medicine, Dialysis, Pensioner and Sterilization had the highest mean scores. Conclusion: It is necessary to assess continuously the presence of Burnout not only in critical services, but also in all those with organizational problems or labor conflicts.
