VALENCIA, Julián Andrés; CARVAJAL, José Gabriel y CASTELLANOS-OBREGON, Juan Manuel. STRATEGIES FOR THE ACCUMULATION OF PRESTIGE BY GROUP LEADER RESEARCHERS IN A UNIVERSITY ORGANIZATION: THE CASE OF THE NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF COLOMBIA AT MANIZALES. Innovar [online]. 2018, vol.28, n.69, pp.175-189. ISSN 0121-5051. https://doi.org/10.15446/innovar.v28n69.71734.
The main goal of this research was to understand prestige accumulation strategies used by academic researchers. For this purpose, we used the case study method within a particularly qualitative approach. The research system of the National University of Colombia at Manizales during the 2010-2014 period was taken as the context of reference for this study. A total of 27 leading researchers of groups classified by Colciencias in 2014 were interviewed. This work shows how researchers seeking high productivity tend to assume an extended reproduction strategy, while those for which low productivity is enough tend to assume a simple reproduction strategy. It was observed these two groups head towards internationalization, demand resources and defend their research interests in a different way. The discussion section offers an analytical reading of the researchers' experience based on their productivity. Additionally, the concept of transition between productivity levels is introduced. Concluding remarks show a weak institutionalization of the studied system and the predominance of a role reproduction strategy.
