CUENCA, JAMES. Youth Who Live in Popular Neighborhoods Produce More Culture than Violence. Rev. colomb. psicol. [online]. 2016, vol.25, n.1, pp.141-154. ISSN 0121-5469. https://doi.org/10.15446/rcp.v25n1.49970.
This paper analyzes the situation of young people from popular neighborhoods when they have to face a strong social stigma, which depicts them as delinquents, drug addicts, and violent subjects. Delving into the conceptual category of popular neighborhood, this position is criticized and, instead, it is proposed an interpretation in which the cultural productivity of the young people who live in these neighborhoods is highlighted. The case of the rappers who live in the city of Cali, Colombia, can be mentioned. As such, in the document one can note that, through rap and hip hop, the young positively affirm their identities and their social origins as inhabitants of a popular neighborhood.
