DAZA CORREDOR, Alexander; VARGAS SANCHEZ, Jhon Jairo  y  RIOS PARRA, Doile. Evaluation of the impact of University Wellness programs on academic performance, permanence and graduation of students. Rev.fac.cienc.econ. [online]. 2022, vol.30, n.1, pp.53-66.  Epub 30-Jun-2022. ISSN 0121-6805.  https://doi.org/10.18359/rfce.5777.

The objective of this study was aimed at evaluating the impact of the University Wellness programs on the academic performance, permanence and graduation of the students of the Universidad del Magdalena during 2018. The sample of this study consisted of students with academic enrollment during the periods between 2014-I and 2018-II in the face-to-face undergraduate modality of a public university in the Caribbean Region of Colombia. The database was built based on information provided by different university units, such as those related to admission processes, institutional welfare and student development, and national databases such as ICFES and SNIES. According to the statistical analysis carried out, it was found that the lunch and snack programs, the inclusion and permanence scholarship, and the academic assistantship program have a positive impact on the academic performance of the beneficiary students and with moderate intensity. These results suggest, as a future line of research, the need to consider cognitive, motivational and family variables that can also explain academic performance. Based on the discussion of the results of this study and on previous literature, it is important to delve deeper on the investigation of the determinants of academic performance of the students, but it will also be very important to pay more attention from the academy to the psychological well-being of this sector of the university community.

Palabras clave : higher education; students; wellness programs; academic performance; Colombian Caribbean.
