MELO-HURTADO, Dora Stella  y  JAIMES-VALENCIA, Mary Luz. SELF-EFFICACY, ATTITUDE TOWARDS DRUG USE AND HEALTH PERCEIVED BY SCHOOL CHILDREN. Hacia promoc. Salud [online]. 2015, vol.20, n.2, pp.118-131. ISSN 0121-7577.  https://doi.org/10.17151/hpsal.2015.20.2.9.

Objective: To determine self-efficacy, attitude towards drug use and health perceived by 8 to 12 year-old children attending schools that participate in the Drug Abuse Prevention Table in the locality of Suba, Bogotá. Materials and Methods: Descriptive exploratory study, which used Albert Bandura's young children perceived self-efficacy instruments for attitude towards drug use and the perceived health KIDSCREEN-27 questionnaire with 288 children ages 8 to 12 from five schools in the locality of Suba, Bogota involved in the in the Drug Abuse Prevention Table. Data were analyzed using SPSS statistics. Results: Higher levels of self-efficacy were identified in girls in the 11-12 age group. Children who have used drugs sometime are perceived with greater self-efficacy, they also report higher levels of attitude towards consumption and perceive their health worse than those who have never consumed. Conclusions: There are few studies that investigate the characteristics of consumption in children under 10 years old. Comprehensive drug prevention programs should be proposed at younger ages, with emphasis on regulatory self-efficacy, parental involvement, strengthening the psychological well-being and the environment around the child in his family and school.
