AGUIRRE RUEDA, Jorge Alejandro. The school textbook as a research topic in the history of education: notes to the geography text. Hist. Soc. [online]. 2015, n.28, pp.247-272. ISSN 0121-8417. https://doi.org/10.15446/hys.n28.48129.
The school textbook as memory space, ideological and pedagogical tool vector has emerged as a new piece of research for historians. Undervalued for a long time, today it brings critical information to understand the initial processes of socialization that took place within schools. One of them, indeed, has been the textbook of geography, which is shown as vehicle tool for many national messages about the territory and the population. It was evident that in Spain, Mexico, Guatemala, Colombia, Ecuador, Chile and Argentina such themes and uses were recurrent and provided similar services. However, it was found that the vast majority of historical studies are still overestimating the role of the textbook, as already denounced Alain Choppin.
