MARTINEZ, Rubén; FERNANDEZ, Eduardo; ABBIATI, Nora y BROCCOLI, Ana. ZOOMETRIC CHARACTERIZATION OF CREOLE BOVINES: PATAGONIC VS. ARGENTINEAN NORTHWEST. Rev.MVZ Cordoba [online]. 2007, vol.12, n.2, pp.1042-1049. ISSN 0122-0268.
Objective. To evaluate zoometric differences between males and mature females of creoles bovines of the same racial group among Argentinean Northeast (ANO) and Patagonia Argentina (PA) regions. Materials and methods. A sample of 259 bovine adults were taken of the following populations: Female ANO (NH=80), Male ANO (NM=33), Female PA (PH=115) and Male PA (PM=31); nine zoometric variables were measured: Head Length (HL); head wide (HW); thorax perimeter (TP); total length (TL); anterior hip wide (AHW); posterior hip wide (PHW) hip length (HL); height to cross (HC) and height to hip (HH). These measures were adjusted by age and according to sex. On the base of five factors associated to variables, animals were grouped in 3 homogeneous conglomerates (C1, C2 and C3) with the purpose of comparing the four populations. Results. Conglomerates presented significant differences (p <0.001) in all variables. The population PH was the most homogeneous and PM that of more zoometric variability. Conclusions. The four studied populations presented different grades of morphological homogeneity and there are features that characterize them with exception of the patagonic male that presented high variability.
