Resumen

OCAMPO ALVAREZ, Denise. Anti-Authoritarian Children's and Youth Literature in Latin America. Contrasts Between Literature and School in Representing Reality. Lit. teor. hist. crit. [online]. 2021, vol.23, n.2, pp.167-191.  Epub 21-Jul-2021. ISSN 0123-5931.  https://doi.org/10.15446/lthc.v23n2.94886.

This article shows how a part of Latin American literature for children and young people, initially strongly linked to education, adopts an alternative discourse when representing reality. We present a historical and theoretical background of the relationship between literature and education, providing examples of literature on the Chilean military dictatorship and Cuban literature about social problems, including the quality of education. The analysis inscribes these corpora in the neo-subversive current of literature with postmodern characteristics by interweaving various of its modalities, specially, anti-authoritarianism. Anti-authoritarianism is accomplished through discourses that contrast with the educational one, as they provide different frames for the same realities, displaying negative representations of teachers and schools, and criticizing their discourse and behavior. This literature with infra-political overtones resizes the traditional literary functions and aligns with the right to receive information and the right to social participation of children and adolescents.

Palabras clave : anti-authoritarianism; rights; education; literature for children and young people; neosubversion.
