Resumen

CADAHIA, Luciana. The role of signifiers and affects in populist theory. Rev.econ.inst. [online]. 2023, vol.25, n.49, pp.75-86.  Epub 02-Nov-2023. ISSN 0124-5996.  https://doi.org/10.18601/01245996.v25n49.04.

This article is a reflection on populism, following the path set by Ernesto La-clau. In the vision of the Argentine author, one can have a positive vision of populism, not that of Eurocentric political science that disqualifies Latin American populism by assimilating it to anti-democratic, dictatorial, authoritarianism and plebiscitary democracy, willing to pass over the institutions. A renewed theory of populism is proposed, which refers to popular struggles for equality and rights. The rejection of populism is, then, a rejection of the people. It is about living the Republic as equals, in freedom. In this vision, populism has nothing to do with rising movements like those of Trump, Bolsonaro, Erdogan or Vox. In the text, special emphasis is placed on the issue of affections, an essential dimension of the political sphere.
