Resumen

SAMPEDRO MARIN, ALCIDES C. et al. New registrations of species of bats for the Department of Sucre and some data about their ecology in this Colombian Region. Caldasia [online]. 2007, vol.29, n.2, pp.355-362. ISSN 0366-5232.

Thirty three bat collections were carried out in different towns from both urban and rural areas of the department of Sucre, in 2004 and 2005. Fog nets were used in open fields and refuges, between 1800 hours and 0600 hours. 22 species of bats were registered and 6 of them are new for the department of Sucre: Artibeus obscurus, Sturnira erythromus, Phyllostomus elongatus, Lonchophylla mordax, Peropterix macrotis and Rhogeesa tumida. The most numerous family was Phyllostomidae. The higher relative abundance (frequency of capture) recorded was for the species Molossus molossus (78.3%), Artibeus obscurus (65.2%) and Loncophylla thomasi (56.5%). The most abundant in the rural zone was Desmodus rotundus (100% of the samples), followed by Noctilio albiventris and Sacopterix bilineata (30%). Both the rural and the urban communities of bats are similar (48%), sharing only 7 of the registered species. The most frequented refuges in the rural zone are the trees, in particular the “Caracolí” (Anacardium excelsum), and a higher number of species was found in larger refuges. The nocturnal activity is notably different among the different species (X2 = 323, p < 0.001 with 12 degrees of freedom), which could mean a mechanism to reduce the competition for food, especially for the vegetarian species.

Palabras clave : Chiroptera; conservation of bats; biological refuges.
