FORERO GOMEZ, María Angélica; RINCON PEREZ, Angélica Fernanda y RAMONI-PERAZZI, Josefa. Determinants of Comprehensive Child Development in Colombia (2010-2016). Soc. Econ. [online]. 2023, n.50, e10612534. Epub 31-Dic-2023. ISSN 1657-6357. https://doi.org/10.25100/sye.v0i50.12534.
Using information from the Colombian Longitudinal Survey of the Universidad de Los Andes for the years 2010, 2013, and 2016 -the only periods to which access was available- an indicator of comprehensive child development is created for Colombia, covering four dimensions: physical, verbal, learning, and socioemotional. Based on a probit model, the determinants of such comprehensive development are analyzed. The results indicate that nearly half of the children do not show comprehensive development, with greater problems in the verbal and learning dimensions. Access to health services and a friendly community environment, preferably urban, as well as better housing and economic conditions, favor development. Hence, it is necessary to implement policies and programs that guarantee integral child development, reduce its deficit, and close the existing inequality gaps.
