The objective of the study was to determine the relationship among psychosocial factor, emotional labor exhaustion and burnout syndrome. In semi structured interviews, 144 participants completed self-report Questionnaires: Emotional Labor Scale, Maslach Burnout Inventory and a Questionnaire to identify psychosocial factors which refers to personal, social or path (home-work-home) problems. The sample consisted of two groups of dentists: 72 teachers paired with 72 of private practice. The results showed direct relationship among psychosocial risk factor of path with job strain and emotional exhaustion, and inverse relationship with personal accomplishment. High levels of job strain and difficulty in peer relationships were reported in teaching dentists. No difference was found in levels of burnout among groups.
