Resumen

SAUCEDO RAMOS, Claudia Lucy. Obstáculos para la implementación de un programa de atención psicológica con estudiantes de escuelas secundarias. Rev.latinoam.cienc.soc.niñez juv [online]. 2006, vol.4, n.1, pp.121-147. ISSN 1692-715X.

This paper reflects on some social discourses and practices that teachers, students and parents engage with in order to construct «students' problems» within the school. Data come from a four years ethnographic research and a psychological services program in three Mexican secondary schools. In these schools, indiscipline, low achievement, violence and aggression among students were considered by the school staff as the main problems to be dealt with. However, some students do not show misbehavior in the school context but have social and emotional problems that are not acknowledged by the school personnel. These problems need psychological attention. The paper analyzes aspects of the social discourses and practices of teachers, students and parents that hindered the operation of the psychological services program. Examples are shown of psychologists' work with diverse participants at school and the need to take into account their perspectives in order to fit intervention strategies to their cultural realities. Achievements and shortcomings of the psychological services program are also examined. Suggestions are presented on how psychologist should proceed in order to help with negotiation processes between teachers and students, to keep a neutral and objective stance concerning the intervention and to understand the complexity of the human actions involved in the construction of «students' problems».
