Resumen

HENAO LOPEZ, Gloria Cecilia  y  GARCIA VESGA, María Cristina. Familial interaction and emotional development in boys and girls. Rev.latinoam.cienc.soc.niñez juv [online]. 2009, vol.7, n.2, pp.785-802. ISSN 1692-715X.

The main goal of this research was to approach the parents' interaction styles of both pre-school boys and girls, and the relationship with their emotional development (235 boys and 169 girls) with ages between five and six years. The dimensions considered to evaluate the children's emotional level were: self-regulation, emotional comprehension and empathy. The first aspect corresponded to the types of parents' interaction with their children and the emotional development of the children being evaluated. A second aspect approached was exploring the associations existing between familial interaction and the child's emotional development. The instrument used with reference to parents was the Identification Scale of Familial Educational Practices (PEF), Spanish version by Alonso and Román; the Evaluation of Emotional Performance (EDEI) was administered to the boys and girls. This instrument is constructed as part of this research work. The sample consisted of 404 children and their parents). The results point out the balanced style as the child's appropriate and adaptive behavior generator and, at the same time, retake this style as the most favoring the emotional comprehension level of the children participating in this study.

Palabras clave : emotional development; familial interaction styles; family; pre-school boys and girls.
