The term social capital, that has become very popular in the last decade, is really a concept that has been used for a long time in distinct areas of social sciences. The concept has been used to explain how the resources owned by some individuals favor or hinder other individuals' actions. In brief, the "social capital" theory and origins come from three different theoretical traditions; as a matter of fact, this paper aims at offering a historical and introductory journey through its main concepts.
