This article is based on a documentary research, which corresponds to a state of the art whose objective has been to examine available literary heritage of academic communities from different latitudes and times, so as to encourage other readings and new academic production. It specifies the non-chanceful, interrelated and localized origins of discussion and conceptualization about the science of the family/studies on the family within the framework of the social sciences, the statements characterizing the current debate about its scientific character, the construction of the family discipline: familiology and the challenges for the construction of an identity in the science of the family.
