Resumen

ZOLLNER AUREA, Ianni Maria et al. Social thinking in health: a critical analysis of the Brazilian Public Health field’s classical works. Rev. Guillermo Ockham [online]. 2017, vol.15, n.2, pp.107-117.  Epub 22-Jun-2021. ISSN 1794-192X.  https://doi.org/10.21500/22563202.3140.

This was a theoretical-historical study of social thinking in health in Brazil, between 1970 and 1980, a production that presented an interpretive effort on the Brazilian social formation and social political health challenges. The objective was to identify theoretical lines and analytical/interpretive patterns. The works of the following authors were analyzed: Cecilia Donnangelo, Sergio Arouca, Sonia Fleury, Madel Luz, Emerson Mehry, Braga & Paula and Jaime Oliveira. Three central themes of the authors’ discussions, that articulate their works, were identified: the State-Society relation- ship, that is, the role of the State to guarantee social and democratic rights, specifically the right to health; the role of health policies and practices in Brazilian social and political formation; health practices and medical knowledge in the constitution of health policies, in line with the development of the productive forces of capitalism in Brazil. These classic works of the public health field reinforce the constitution of a social thinking in health, which is related to the socio-economic, political-ideological and cultural context. The incorporation of the social sciences is structuring of this thought and it is possible to verify that theoretical patterns intersect, indicating a level consistent and sufficiently delimited in the theoretical discussions of the field.
