Resumen

CARDONA ALVAREZ, José A et al. Bovine skin dermatobiosis frequency in Holstein cows from a dairy herd at Viçosa (MG, Brasil). Ces. Med. Vet. Zootec. [online]. 2013, vol.8, n.1, pp.82-94. ISSN 1900-9607.

Abstract Bovine dermatobiosis is a chronic ulcerative ectoparasitosis affecting the skin and subcutaneous tissue of cattle in tropical and subtropical regions. It is characterized by causing furuncular myiasis in the host. Myiasis is produced by the larval stages of Dermatobia hominis flies. The objective of this study was to determine the frequency of cutaneous dermatobiosis in the Holstein cattle of a dairy herd at Viçosa (MG, Brazil). A non-probabilistic study was conducted between March and April 2013. A total of 71 purebred Holstein cows were evaluated. Sixty four cows showed multifocal nodular skin lesions compatible with dermatobiosis (frequency: 90.1%). In accordance with the clinical and epidemiological manifestations, macroscopic characteristics of the skin lesions, and the identification of the larval stages in the laboratory, we conclude the presence of cutaneous dermatobiosis is high in this herd.
