CHACON-PADILLA, KARLA  y  MONGE-PEREZ, JOSÉ ELADIO. Evaluation of yield and quality of six genotypes of cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) grown under greenhouse conditions in Costa Rica. rev.colomb.cienc.hortic. [online]. 2016, vol.10, n.2, pp.323-332. ABSTRACT There is no information about the productivity and quality that can be obtained growing cucumber under greenhouse conditions in Costa Rica. The objective of the study was to evaluate yield and quality of six long fruit type cucumber genotypes (Arioso, Cumlaude, Dreamliner, Kalunga, Paisaje and Roxinante) grown under greenhouse conditions at the Agricultural Experimental Station Fabio Baudrit Moreno located in Alajuela, Costa Rica. The crop was established with fertigation, using coconut fiber as substrate, and pruning to one stem per plant, and the harvest started 31 days after transplant for all genotypes. Data show a wide variability between genotypes with respect to fruit length (31.58-35.77 cm), fruit diameter (46.60-50.09 mm), total number of fruits per plant (15,03- 21,03), mean fruit weight (439.75-480.82 g), yield per plant (6,940.20-9,971.97 g per plant), commercial yield (13,74- 19,51 kg m-2), total yield (18,03-25,90 kg m-2), and percentage of total soluble solids (3.38-3.67 °Brix). First quality cucumber fruits showed higher length and width than second quality and waste fruits, they also obtained lesser percentage of total soluble solids than waste fruits. Roxinante and Dreamliner genotypes obtained the highest commercial (19.21 and 19.51 kg m-2, respectively) and first quality yield (14.62 and 12.95 kg m-2, respectively), so they are considered the best adapted to the conditions of the experiment.

Palabras clave : fruit length; fruit diameter; fruit weight; total soluble solids.
