Introduction: Anabolic steroids (AS) are derivatives of testosterone, used to treat some diseases. Athletes began using to increase muscle mass and physical strength in activities, but in recent years there is an increase of people using EA, young people who engage in physical activity as a means of pleasure, but in order to improve their appearance and up making use these substances indiscriminately. The purpose of this was to reflect on the indiscriminate use of AS and their consequences while a public health problem. Materials and Methods: Is a reflection paper, which presents an approach from the literature and the reality from the perspective of the health problem by the use of anabolic steroids by athletes and young practitioner of physical activity. Results: The present reflection shows that people adept AS are athletes, young pleople and people who like to maintain a body image based on stereotypes. Discussion: The stereotype created by current society and the looking-for good performance in physical activity, encourage people to use AS, creating a problem that is growing up today without any greater approach to the subject by government authorities. Conclusions:Although have a control to purchase this type of medicine, this is not at all effective, yielding a high risk in the occurrence of diseases in users, and the growing number of users without control in the population. Therefore, it requires further studies that address this issue, greater control in marketing them and intervention by government entities responsible
