Introduction: Community Health Agent is a worker whose their actions are fundamental to the Health System to work in order to strengthen the actions of the Family Health Strategies. In developing their work may confront certain frustrating situations or that arouse motivation. This study aimed to understand the perceptions and motivations of Community Health Agents on their actions in the work process in the municipality of Santa Maria. Materials and Methods: This is an exploratory-descriptive qualitative study. The study was conducted from August to November 2011. The study included thirty-three Community Health Agents of the Health Strategy teams of the Family. We used the semi-structured interviews and data were submitted to thematic content analysis. Results: Three categories emerged: work perspective of Community Health Workers in the Health Strategy Team family and its relationship with the community, Perceptions of Community Health Agents on interdisciplinary work and the relationship with the health management and Motivations and discouragement in the work process. Discussion: The Community Health Agents understand the relevance of their work, but feel unmotivated and poorly recognized by the actions they perform. Conclusions: The lack of support of the municipal administration, the other members of the health team and the community are generating feelings of dissatisfaction and demotivation at work.
