Companies constitutes one of the fundamental pillars of today's economic system; so much so that, on many occasions, the market economy system, predominant in developed countries, is also known as the free enterprise system. As a fundamental driver of the economy, companies have fulfilled various roles throughout history. Although it is now when companies have acquired their fullest meaning, the truth is that this business figure has existed for a long time. Companies also have an important social dimension, as it is an important source of job creation and wealth generation in society. Likewise, they are the driving force behind major innovations that enable economic development, as they create an environment conducive to innovations that can be applied to industrial and commercial uses, generating greater business benefits, increased investment, and therefore, economic growth. Hence, companies represent the engine of the economic system and the main object or reason for research. The main purpose of this article is knowing the nature of companies and defining their purpose, from the field of Administration, Law, and Economics Sciences.
