Resumen

DIAZ-CARDENAS, Shyrley  y  SIMANCAS-PALLARES, Miguel. Psychometric properties of General Oral Health Assessment Index [GOHAI] - Spanish version in adult patients from Cartagena (Colombia). Salud, Barranquilla [online]. 2017, vol.33, n.3, pp.393-404. ISSN 0120-5552.

Objective:

To determine psychometric properties of the General Oral Health Assessment Index (GOHAI) in Spanish.

Methods:

We performed a validation study without reference criteria in 1,011 adults to who was applied GOHAI in a self-administered fashion since 2012 to 2015. Tested psychometric properties included: construct validity, internal consistency and differential itemfunctioning. Exploratory Factor Analysis determined the best factor solution and through confirmatory factor analysis we confirmed the previous encountered factor structure. Statistical analysis was performed with descriptive statistics, EFA, CFA, Cronbach's Alpha and Kendall's Tau. Data analysis was performed using Stata v.13.2 for Windows (StataCorp., USA) and Mplus v.7.31 for Windows (Muthén & Muthén., USA).

Results:

Participants mean age was 48.9 (SD: 15.9) years-old and 50% were females. GOHAI showed as overall mean 29.06 (SD: 9.37). EFA showed a three-factor structure that accounted 38% of the variance and CFA showed the following fit-indexes: x 2 : 3769.15; df: 45; RMSEA: 0,060; 90% CI: 0,05 - 0,07; CFI: 0,971 e TLI: 0,956. DFI analysis showed values between -0.03 and 0.09 for all of the items (p<0.05). Overall internal consistency was 0.87.

Conclusions:

GOHAI is one of the most used instruments for Oral Health-Related Quality of Life (OHRQoL) measurement but without construct validity within this sample. These findings provides new hypothesis for further research to adjust its performance and generalize results of these measures.
