This article is aimed at analyzing certain typical features of people from Antioquia, Colombia, in what has been called the "Antioquian colonization". This analysis is done using the historical method, placing these characteristics in interaction with contemporary competitive factors and raising critical approaches in terms of their uniqueness and distinction as a cultural group in this country. It provides reference to various contemporary indicators of national competitiveness and describes how entrepreneurship is viewed. Finally, it points out the absence of certain elements in the performance of regional entrepreneurs in addressing current economic challenges. Therefore, a suggestion is made to rescue it, stressing in this process the role of education and interaction of stakeholders involved in the issue of competitiveness.
