Objective.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the relationships between positive and negative psychological variables associated with mental health and quality of life in leaders who were victims of the armed conflict in Montes de Maria, Sucre, Colombia.

Methodology.

Was based on a quantitative paradigm. Twenty-eight peasant leaders participated and were administered scales of social support, resilient coping, perceived stress, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety and depression, and health-related quality of life.

Results.

There were favorable levels in all study variables and linear regression analyses show that depression has a negative weight on physical quality of life and anxiety and perceived stress have a negative weight on mental quality of life.

Conclusion.

Physical and mental quality of life may be affected by negative emotions in people who have experienced violence in the context of the Colombian armed conflict.
