ROCHA-BUELVAS, Anderson; TRUJILLO-MONTALVO, Elizabeth; HIDALGO-PATINO, Carlos  y  HIDALGO-ERASO, Ángela. The burden of cancer in the department of Nariño and its Subregions, Colombia, 2010. Rev. Fac. Nac. Salud Pública [online]. 2014, vol.32, n.3, pp.340-354. ISSN 0120-386X.

OBJECTIVE: to measure the burden of cancer using the indicator Disability Adjusted Life Years (DALYS). METHODOLOGY: the use of the dalys indicator made it possible to identify the burden of cancer in the department of Nariño, 2010. RESULTS : the dalysdue to cancer emphasize the emergency of stomach, cervix, breast, prostate, trachea/bronchus/lung, colon and rectum and benign tumors, as well as leukemias and lymphomas. Similarly, the indicator shows an important amount of years of life lost due to premature death along with a predominance of this issue among women. CONCLUSIONS:this is the first study of burden of cancer targeting a department in Colombia using a standardized methodology contributing to the Health Plan of the department of Nariño in Colombia during 2013-2015 and to the indicators system of the Cancer Control Ten-Year Plan. Cancer is ranked second only to cardiovascular diseases as the most important causes of dalys within the non communicable diseases group.
