This article is the result of a research project whose main purpose was to analyze the teaching practices regarding the written production in Fifth Graders in two different educational institutions from Villavicencio, Colombia. These educational practices were largely determined by the teachers who designed them, based on their conceptions of the didactics of writing. The analysis of the data was based on the compilation of a massive corpus, consisting of 632 writing samples registered by the students in their language notebooks. Semi-structured interviews and focal group discussions with the teachers were also important for the development of this study. The outcome evidenced the absence of strategies oriented towards the development of writing processes framed in real communicative situations, or with a focus on the resolution of authentic rhetorical problems. Other issues, such as the lack of knowledge about essential writing strategies such as planning, production and proofreading are also highlighted in this article.
