Resumen

RESTREPO RESTREPO, Andrea. A reading of the real through Punk . hist.crit. [online]. 2005, n.29, pp.9-37. ISSN 0121-1617.

This article analyzes the arrival and reception of the punk movement in the city of Medellín . It takes its music, aesthetics, and symbolism as historical records in order to thus show the reality of a sector of the city's marginal youth during the 80s. It shows how neglect on the part of the state, the breakdown of traditional institutions, the levels of poverty, and the overwhelming violence in that decade led young people to seek new means of expression and socialization. In that context, certain youths sought an outlet in music. Music permitted many of them to self-determine their lives and through it and its ideological content they renewed forms of political and social representation. In this sense, punk represents a cultural rupture that marks the establishment of a new path for excluded youths.

Palabras clave : Punk; city; groups of buddies; noise; marginality; gangs; violence; death; no-future; drugtrafficking; Medellín; music.
