MOYA-MARTINEZ, Pablo; ESCRIBANO-SOTOS, Francisco y PARDO-GARCIA, Isabel. The Labor Market Share of Informal Caregivers of the Elderly in Spain. Innovar [online]. 2012, vol.22, n.43, pp.55-66. ISSN 0121-5051.
The world is undergoing an aging process that is giving rise to an increase in the population's rate of dependence. Without necessary adjustments, current social and health systems will not be sustainable. One of the focuses of attention to this problem are informal caregivers and their share of the labor market. This research aims to determine the influence on the labor market of dedication to informal care. The following results were obtained: Intensive informal care decreases the probability of employment between 10% and 12%; new plans are necessary to aid employment and reconciliation of family and work, mainly for informal caregivers intensively dedicated to their dependent relatives and/or friends.
