Resumen

CASTANEDA SANCHEZ, Darío Antonio; MONTOYA GUTIERREZ, Ruth Yesenia  y  ESCOBAR CHALARCA, Carlos Alberto. DIGITAL INTEGRATED SYSTEM FOR THE CLASSIFICATION OF LAND COVER AND USE TO BANANA FARM LEVEL. Rev. Fac. Nac. Agron. Medellín [online]. 2006, vol.59, n.1, pp.3167-3199. ISSN 0304-2847.

An integrated system was developed for the classification of land cover and use that is applicable to banana systems. It was based on two criteria; community participation and remote sensing. The former is based upon incorporation of the knowledge that the community has regarding its surroundings through workshops and social cartography; the latter proposes the use of low cost technological tools for establishing land covers and uses, such as acquiring low altitude aerial photographs using a system comprised of a kite or balloon, equipment for image acquisition, and ground based control equipment. The proposal was applied through a case study in a banana plantation located in the Urabá region ( Colombia ). Image analysis permitted aggregating the land covers into classes or groups and with the aide of community participation, the uses of each land cover was described. Finally, an analysis of environmental regulations was conducted related to the spatial distribution of the land covers, establishing for example areas for withdrawing from cultivation with respect to resources or vulnerable areas, as well as the compliance or non compliance with regulations.

Palabras clave : Integrated system; remote sensing; cartography; land covers; spatial distribution.
