Resumen

RUIZ-PEREZ, José Ignacio et al. Social representations of penitentiary treatment in reclaimed population and penitentiary officers. Psychol. av. discip. [online]. 2018, vol.12, n.1, pp.115-132. ISSN 1900-2386.  https://doi.org/10.21500/19002386.2986.

The penitentiary treatment is part of the penitentiary policies directed to the re-socialization in a guaranteeing framework of the rights of the detainees. The objective of this work was to know the social representations of the penitentiary treatment in inmates and prison officials of eleven penal establishments in Colombia. A questionnaire based on free association of words was answered by a non-random sample of 485 officials and 1240 inmates. For both groups, penitentiary treatment was mainly associated with re-socialization and with the modalities in which penitentiary law in Colombia is emphasized to carry it out and whose realization allows for a reduction in conviction: work, education and study. Through an analysis of hierarchical classification, several fields of representation were found among inmates on critical aspects of penitentiary treatment, such as "fear", "isolation" or "there is not", while officials employed more often terms such as "resocialization", "welfare" or "follow-up". In both groups, a positive social representation of penitentiary treatment predominated.
