CARVAJAL OROZCO, José Gabriel. The dilemma regarding organisations’ existence and identity. Innovar [online]. 2005, vol.15, n.25, pp.25-35. ISSN 0121-5051.

This work was aimed at demonstrating and documenting the results of reflecting on which conditions are needed for an organisation to exist and which criteria are needed for establishing its identity. It is suggested that some new terms may be employed when dealing with organisational reality regarding the above parameters; these are not intended to be definitive but may lead to discussion, whilst advances in terms of clarifying the situation concerning organisations’ empirical referent would definitively be conceptual. The position defined here implies that the existence of organisation does not arise from need respecting the presence of or division of labour or the hierarchy or humans’ different material objects. Such characteristics outlive existence, but may not survive without affecting the essential nature of organisational phenomena.

Palavras-chave : organisation theory; organisational identity; organisational existence; organisational epistemology; organisational philosophy.
