PIEDRAHITA-GUZMAN, Yuly Viviana. Political Science and Social Intervention: an incomplete relationship. Prospectiva [online]. 2019, n.27, pp.309-339. ISSN 0122-1213.  https://doi.org/10.25100/prts.v0i27.7283.

In recent decades, traditional ways of doing science have been questioned. On the one hand, the crisis of modernity has cast doubt over the place of reason and on the other, globalization has generated economic, social and cultural changes in today’s society, which have questioned the paradigms of the social sciences. Within this framework, political science has not evaded such questioning because of the preeminence of positivism and its empiricist accent, where social intervention has occupied a pejorative place. The concern of the discipline to comply with scientific requirements has made it impossible to grant a role to social intervention. However, these obstacles have their origin in the difficulties that the discipline has in solving basic questions such as: what is the purpose of the knowledge that is constructed? Therefore, it can be said that the discipline has not wanted to give a place to the intervention and that it is incapable of doing so until it resolves the serious difficulties it has. Today, the social sciences have been confronted with a complex and diverse context that demands the resolution and transformation of social problems. In this perspective, political science must rethink itself as a discipline and examine its future in the face of current demands and needs.
