HOZVEN-VALENZUELA, Raúl Octavio. Managed identities: the case of the degree in social work in Chile. Prospectiva [online]. 2023, n.35, e20912321. Epub 22-Dez-2022. ISSN 0122-1213. https://doi.org/10.25100/prts.v0i35.12321.
In Chile in the last five years and a managerial context, the professions of public action have experienced deep complexities for various reasons. In this regard, taking Social Work as a case study, the article asks about the relevance of his Bachelor's degree in identity terms, and for that, discourses of professionals who work in policies related to Childhood, Social Protection, and Housing are considered.
All the above are analyzed from a theoretical-methodological proposal linked to the identities of Claude Dubar and the discourse analysis of Potter y Wetherell. The results give an account of an interpretive repertoire that outlines a new subjectivity around this profession based, on the one hand, on transitions in the meanings between the professional and the technical, and on the other, in its nomenclature, having or not it has an academic degree.
After that, a reflection is proposed regarding the construction of Social Work, deeply commodified in Chile, an aspect that currently involves a complex labor fabric, which poses challenges in that area, in training and practice, both locally and in Latin America.
