TORREGROSA, Marta  e  GUTIERREZ, Ruth. Knowledge and Power in Communication Professionals: An Approach to the Concept of Authority from the Perspective of the Epistemology of Communication. Palabra Clave [online]. 2009, vol.12, n.2, pp.287-299. ISSN 0122-8285.

It is an accepted truism among society and communication professionals - in all areas of the media - that the latter wield a certain authority through the exercise of their profession. Being part of a profession implies a kind of social and institutional recognition afforded to those who manage a specific knowledge -how for the common good of society. From an epistemological perspective, it is important to consider the assumption that communication professionals do have a specific knowledge: that is, a type of authority over others, and to ask ourselves where its basis lies and how that authority is wielded.

Palavras-chave : Authority; knowledge; power; professionals; communication.
