Writing tutoring is a form of support for the development of these skills that are specific to writing centers. In many cases, tutoring sessions are given by pairs (undergraduate students) who have to deal with different situations in which various forms of discourse are used. When conflict between the tutor and the tutee rises, it is necessary to use argumentative strategies or strategic maneuvers to reach an agreement between both. Several examples of conflict in tutoring sessions are discussed following concepts of pragmadialectic theory. The processes followed for conflict resolution to develop writing skills are observed. Strategies found can be transferred to other educational contexts where the teacher can assume a role of mentor.
