WASTEWATER TREATMENT FROM SLAUGHTER HOUSE: USING POWDER OF M. oleífera AS A NATURAL COAGULANT. Rev.Bio.Agro [online]. 2017, vol.15, n.spe, pp.29-39. ISSN 1692-3561. https://doi.org/10.18684/BSAA(EdiciónEspecial)29-39.
The present study analyzed the efficiency of the seed of M. Oleífera tree as a coagulant in the treatment of wastewater from slaughter plant. For do this, different coagulation/flocculation tests were conducted in a jar test apparatus, by using defined dose of the natural coagulant. This latter was obtained by grinding of seeds and its powder. The wastewater sample was taken at the end of slaughter plant after the treatment preliminary that consists of a cleaning manual grid. pH, turbidity, color, temperature, BOD5, DO, total suspended solids (TSS), total and faecal coliforms were measured before and after each test in each trial, in order to calculate the removal efficiency obtained. The most important results show that, a removal of 87% and 80% can be achieved for color and turbidity, respectively, by using an optimal dose of 7500 mg /L and an optimal concentration of 5 %. In this regard, an important contribution of this study corresponds to new evidence about the advantage provided by using M. Oleífera seed powder to improve the characteristics of the wastewater, which until now had been little understood
