Letter from the Director of the Military Academy

Military Sciences get a more increasing interest in the scientific community aimed at setting up solid foundations ensuring the expansion of the multidisciplinary knowledge to implement the Security and Defense Policy of a country. This is reflected in the increasing number of articles submitted for publication in our Colombian journal for military studies. Here we give a quick summary of its content.

The Military Studies section consists of four articles: "Structural Transformation of the Colombian Army. Building Future Scenarios", by the Colonel Andrés Rolando Ciro-Gómez, PhD candidate in Political Studies, at the Universidad Externado de Colombia, and by the lawyer Magdalena Correa-Henao, PhD in Law from the same University, and a judge of the Colombian Constitutional Court; "Geopolitics and development in compared trajectories: South America and East Asia", by Guilherme Lopes da Cunha and Tiago Nasser Appel, PhD candidates in International Political Economy from the Institute of Economics at Rio de Janeiro’s Federal University; "Reflections on the Spanish National Security Strategy: Lessons for SouthAmerica", by Daniela Briones-Riveros, Master on Contemporary Thinking at the Universidad Diego Portales of Chile.

The Human Rights And Humanitarian Law section contains the article "Gender and transnational family. A theoretical approach to align with the migratory studies", by Alessandra Ciurlo, PhD in Social Sciences from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, and Adjunct Instructor for Social Research, at the same university.

The Education section also includes a single article: "Ontological foundations for the construction of the concept of contametry", a doctoral study of the Universidad de Los Andes, Merida, Venezuela, by the public accountant Rafael Franco-Ruiz; and "The hegemonic environmental discourse through cooperation agencies and its influence on international relations", by José Manuel Velázquez-Gutiérrez, Master on Government, Governance and Democracy from El Colegio de Tlaxcala, in Mexico, and PhD candidate in Political Studies, at the Universidad Externado de Colombia.

The Science and Technology section has five articles: "A strategy to meet: UK is trying to innovate in terms of competitiveness, 1998-2005", a research product on strategies competitiveness, of the Faculty of Business Administration from the University of East London, England, by professor Enrique Sandino-Vargas; "The vertical integration in the logistical administration of Military Academy of Cadets (esmic): an exploratory study on the strategy of vertical integration for military institutions", by professors Juan Carlos Ramos-Mallarino, Master on Business Administration from The Sergio Arboleda University, and Diana Diana Elvira Forero-Rodriguez, PhD Candidate in Management Sciences at University of Rouen, in France; "Evaluation of the mechanical behavior of composites usuable in low-orbit rocket nozzles", by Jorge Maldonado-Villa, Julián Portocarrero-Hermann, César Rodriguez-Adaime y Juan José Valbuena-Cocunubo, professors and researchers of the 'Marco Fidel Suárez’ Military Aviation School; "Shooting Distance and its interpretation against the conduct of hostilities in the Colombian armed conflict", by Jhon Norvey-Zambrano, Nelson Eduardo Espinosa-Blanco and Luis Eduardo Romero-Anturi, researchers from the Postgraduate Faculty of the esmic; and "Technical performance profiling for swimming in untrained cadets and ensigns: a case study for the ESMIC, directed by Professor Sergio Mauricio Castañeda-Tovar, Research Coordinator of the Research Center for Physical Culture-CICFI, at the Military Academy of Cadets.

Finally, the History section contains the article: "Civil-Military Relations in Colombia: supremacy and control of political parties on the military organization", a doctoral study, with a focus on research in "Army and Politics in Latin America: the exceptionality of the Colombian case in an authoritarian regional context from 1958 to 1986", of the Institut d’Etudes Politiques in the Faculty of Political Science, at the University of Aix-en-Provence, France.

We invite all members of the academic community to publish their research papers in military topics, in Spanish, English, French or Portuguese, for the following issues of the General José María Córdova Military Journal (Rev. Cient. Gen. José María Córdova, issn 1900-6586). Selected articles in other languages will be translated into Spanish.
