This article analyzes the land distribution in hacienda Bellavista, in the state of Jalisco, Mexico. The hacienda was an agro-livestock industry emporium in the Pofiriato. Between 1915 and 1935, the hacienda's neighboring towns requested, and were given, government land grants. Bellavista was the last town to make and be granted such a request, in April 1935. This land distribution ended with the well-known hacienda structure, thus giving origin to the establishment of ejidos, which were created by the revolutionary governments and by the legislation that emerged out of them. In this study, regarding the topic of land distribution, the general legislation and bibliography on the agrarian reform, the historiography of the Mexican revolution and the documentation pertaining to the Registro Agrario Nacional, Delegación Jalisco, were consulted, paying particular attention to the dossier of endowment of the Bellavista ejido (1932-1945). From the analysis of these materials, it was concluded that the revolutionary governments implemented the land distribution through the application of national agrarian laws; which confronted highly contrasting realities as well as regional and local responses. The case of Bellavista ejido is a clear example of such land distribution.
