HIGUERA COBOS, OSCAR FABIÁN; MORENO TELLEZ, CARLOS MAURICIO e RAMIREZ MONTES, CAROLINA. EFFECT OF THE PREHEATING AND THE QUENCHING SEVERITY ON THE RESISTANCE TO THE ADHESIVE WEAR OF THE MANGANESE AUSTENITIC STEEL. Dyna rev.fac.nac.minas [online]. 2010, vol.77, n.164, pp.76-87. ISSN 0012-7353.
In this research we studied the effect of preheating and tempering the severity of the adhesive wear resistance of austenitic manganese steel ASTM A 128 degree C. The material was subjected to thermal cycles of quenching and tempering with and without preheating in order to assess their influence on the wear resistance. Subsequently the material was tested according to ASTM G-83 and found that the austenitic manganese steel, a material that presents a metastable microstructure in a stable condition and should not be subjected to heat treatment of high-tempered temperatures because it promotes a decomposition of the ferrite (soft phase of the steel) and therefore reduces its wear resistance.
