ORTIZ-MURCIA, Rubén et al. Visual and quantitative methodology to identify zones of interest within source rock reservoirs. Bol. geol. [online]. 2021, vol.43, n.2, pp.63-77.  Epub 15-Mar-2022. ISSN 0120-0283.  https://doi.org/10.18273/revbol.v43n2-2021004.

Around 16500 results from laboratory analysis of routine and special core analysis, geochemistry, organic petrography, X-ray diffraction, optical petrology, SEM and geomechanics have been obtained from rock samples (core, sidewall core and cuttings) of Colombian formations on exploratory and delimitation stage as Source Rock Reservoirs (SRRs). Having a large amount of information makes necessary to adopt efficient methodologies to evaluate and identify potentially producing areas. There are various approaches that propose different workflows; some of these flows take the compositional aspect as the central axis of work, while others are based on the concept of flow units; some others focus their work on lithofacies, or electrofacies, while others give priority to geochemical characteristics or the integration of different types of parameters. The methodology proposed here has an integrative approach. This methodology starts from a collection of mineralogical, petrophysical, geochemical and geomechanical criteria found in the literature, aimed at SRRs; additionally, other criteria have been proposed by the authors taking into account the behavior observed in Colombian formations. These criteria, presented as cut-offs, are the support of the two interpretation tools provided by this methodology: (1) a visual indicator equivalent to a quality map allowing the best areas to be distinguished by means of a color scale; (2) two heuristic sub-indicators (quality index (QI) and maximum sum (SumMax)) which generate a quantitative assessment depending on the quality and degree of importance of each parameter, which is adjusted by means of weighting factors. As a result, a methodology was developed integrating evaluation criteria from different disciplines involved in the evaluation of SRRs. These criteria are weighted according to their importance and considered simultaneously in the determination of potentially producing intervals.
