MORENO, Ana Isabel  e  LOTERO, Jorge. Openness, Structural Change and Competitiveness in an "Old" Industrialized Region: the Antioquia Case. Lect. Econ. [online]. 2005, n.63, pp.77-109. ISSN 0120-2596.

It was thought that with the reforms of the nineties the processes of restructuring and reconverting will led the industry of Antioquia to raise its capacity to compete in the internal and external markets. The present article intents to evaluate the effect of the reforms of the nineties over growth, productivity and global market access from two complementary perspectives. In the first, the structure and dynamics of industrial change and the behavior of the sources of productivity on a sector level are analyzed. In the second, the evolution of the commercial competitiveness on a sector level and by markets is studied. This analysis allows concluding that, even though some industries improved their levels of efficiency and global market access, the development pattern of the industry of Antioquia is still fundamentally one of survival.

Palavras-chave : Capital and total factor productivity; country and industry studies of trade.
