Abstract Against views that understand the problem of subjectivity as a phenomenon reduced to the incorporation of pragmatic experiences, the article defends the view that subjectivity has to do with a problem of attenuation, in Langacker's sense, according to which there is an increase in the presence of the conceptualizing element as a result of the decrease in the referential properties of the lexical form. The potential weight of form becomes an epistemic weight, which can have evaluative and evidentiary value. Attenuation appears in both the grammaticalization of verbs and nouns for the constitution of grammatical markers (possession, location, time and aspect) and the formation of discursive markers. The paper pays special attention to the grammaticalization of verbs such as ir and tener, as well as to the contrast between the deictic locatives of proximity aquí/acá, in which the reduction of conceptual distance generates subjective representations ranging from experiential affectation to representations of an evaluative nature.
